Community Overview
The Village of Brookfield is located 13 miles west of downtown Chicago in Cook County. It is an historic suburb of Chicago that has an area of approximately 3.1 square miles. The Village of Brookfield is well positioned with convenient access to the City of Chicago and connections to the Chicago region. Ogden Avenue (U.S. Route 34) passes through the Village. I-290 and I-55 are located near the Village as well. There are three Metra stations along the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railway within Brookfield. These are: Congress Park, Brookfield, Hollywood Stations. Metra service reaches the City of Chicago to the east and Aurora to the west.

Brookfield is the home of the world-famous Brookfield Zoo which attracts thousands of visitors annually. Brookfield is a suburb combining the best of urban and suburban living and offers cultural amenities and easy access to downtown Chicago, while providing families with great schools and the conveniences of suburban living.

Brookfield is a vibrant diverse community of approximately 19,500 individuals supporting a variety of churches, good schools, an excellent library, extensive parks, and recreation programs and four growing vibrant business districts.

Business Districts
Downtown Brookfield - Comprised of Prairie, Brookfield, and Maple Avenues.
The fastest growing business corridors in Brookfield.  Located steps from one of three Metra stops, home to a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as the addition of multifamily and mixed-use developments have contributed to the growth of Downtown Brookfield.  The vibrancy of the district is supported by a dynamic calendar of Village sponsored events, and business developed promotions and activities that elevate the exposure of all the businesses in the district. Downtown Brookfield continues to grow and support a dynamic local food and restaurant scene with small boutique retail store that support the character of the community and do not try to compete with big-box or online retailers.

A variety of land-uses are located on each street section range from single-family residences to commercial uses. 8 Corners is an active and popular shopping area surrounded by stable neighborhoods and the S.E. Gross Middle School. A highly walkable area with a growing interest for small businesses looking for a vibrant area that is supported by other successful businesses. Community organizations host events in the area annually to attract visitors to the district and to support the business community.

Ogden Avenue Corridor - The mile long Ogden Avenue corridor extends from Custer Avenue to East Avenue. This highly visible, commercial corridor sees more than 25,000 cars per day.  Ogden is a popular route from Chicago to communities to the west.  
The Village of Brookfield is implementing improvements to Ogden Avenue from Eberly Avenue to Custer Avenue through Energize Ogden Avenue, an Engineering and Environmental study. This project will be multi-faceted and will transform the Ogden Avenue corridor.  Brookfield’s vision for Ogden Avenue is to grow as a destination location within the region, due to the collection of one-of-a-kind and unique businesses and restaurants, and an attractive corridor character that is distinct to Brookfield.  Over the next five to ten years, the Village of Brookfield, along with Ogden Avenue property and business owners and other stakeholders, will work together to make progressive steps towards implementation around a series of separate but related initiatives, with the goal of enhancing and elevating the character and success of the corridor.

31st Street Business Corridor - The 31st Street corridor extends from Grand Boulevard to Forest Avenue.
This area has a mix of single family and multiple family housing and a variety of business types.   Close to the popular visitor attraction, Brookfield Zoo this corridor is highly visible with a traffic count of 12,000 – 16,000 cars a day.
