Garden Recognition Program
The BBC recognizes Brookfield citizens’ commitment to enhancing the natural environment and in turn beautifying the community. Each month a different member of the BBC selects a home that meets pre-determined criteria. The criteria may include factors such as well tended garden free of weeds, pleasing mix of plants/flowers, etc.
BBC encourages members of the community to take pride in their landscapes, and it seeks to reinforce community members’ hard work. The ultimate goal is to create a ripple effect that translates into all neighbors working to maintain their properties.
When a home is determined to meet the requirements, the owner is contacted and asked if she or he would like to be recognized for their hard work. If they accept the recognition then a temporary plaque/sign is placed in their yard indicating that they have been chosen as a BBC-awarded home. This sign will be transferred to the next awarded home.
The Village Board would recognize winners at a regularly scheduled public meeting and it would be featured on the Village website in the same time frame. For more information, please click on the following form:

Project N.I.C.E.
A village-wide volunteer service day held each spring and fall in Brookfield. Residents donate one morning of their time to give our parks, schools, train stations and outdoor public areas a good outdoor cleaning. Gardens are weeded and planted, trees mulched, small branches picked up, walkways swept and litter collected. Special projects are also planned for each event.
Sponsored by the Brookfield Beautification Commission, Project N.I.C.E. and the volunteers who make it happen have been creating a positive impact on the Village of Brookfield for over 20 years! Project NICE received the Governor’s Home Town Award in recognition of community volunteers’ efforts.
Maps, bags, some gloves and tools are also provided. We encourage volunteers to also bring their own tools such as rakes, shovels for mulching and hand tools for weeding if at all possible. Please label your tools if you bring them.

Community Art Project (CAP)
The BBC created a project plan for Brookfield’s Community Art Program (CAP) in January 2011. This program includes proposals for the installation of murals, sculptures and other artwork throughout the Village, as well as streetscape/landscape initiatives. You can review the project document plan by clicking here.

Business District
The BBC, in cooperation with the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and community volunteers, decorates the lampposts and hanging baskets to enhance the look of our Grand Blvd/Prairie Ave. and Broadway Ave. business districts. Decorations change seasonally, and have included live plants and flowers in the spring and summer, gourds and bows in the fall, and fresh greenery and ornaments for the winter holidays.
Contact the BBC if you are interested in helping beautify our business areas! The email address is: brookfieldbeautification@brookfieldil.gov.
Business Recognition Program
The BBC recognizes Brookfield businesses who have a commitment to enhancing their façade and interior space. We recognize landscape improvements and visually appealing façade enhancements, as well as interior improvements. Once a year the BBC votes to recognize 1-4 businesses within our community that have made changes which improve the general appearance and contribute to the visual appeal of of our town. We hope that this recognition process will bring pride to our businesses and offer ideas and encouragement to our other establishments. Ultimately we hope each of the businesses within our town will re-invest in their properties and thus improve our community.
When a business is determined to meet the requirements, the owner is contacted and asked if s/he would like to be recognized for their hard work. If they accept the recognition, BBC will present a framed certificate to the owner and photographs are taken to share on the village website and media outlets.
