Brookfield Zoo Attendance Surpasses 2.3 Million

The Brookfield Zoo is reporting strong attendance again with overall attendance in 2016 exceeding 2.3 million visitors (that’s more than the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and Art Institute).  The performance exceeds 2015 figures reported in the Chicago Tribune.  More than 80% of Zoo visitors reside within 50 miles of the attraction, with 33% from nearby Cook County suburbs.

Many of the Brookfield Zoo visitors of course have year-round memberships.  In Brookfield alone, the Zoo has over 2,100 members (over 10% of the Village’s total population), 141 donors, 43 volunteers — and over 100 full- and part-time employees residing in the community.  An additional 10,000 members live in communities immediately surrounding Brookfield, such as La Grange, Riverside, Lyons, Berwyn, Cicero, and Westchester.  These visitors make an economic impact, with frequent trips through Brookfield to visit the Zoo with stops at the stores and restaurants located in town.
