Brookfield Participates in State Panel on Attracting Millennials

The Village of Brookfield participated in a state panel last week, “Attracting Millennials to Your Community,” sponsored by the Illinois Tax Increment Association.  The association is a leading voice for economic development, TIF legislation, and professional development in the state.  The topic, while focused on the millennial cohort which now constitutes the largest age group (larger than baby boomers) and is entering the workforce, addressed the serious challenge facing Illinois of population loss and talent retention across all age groups.  Going forward, population loss if not reversed will have negative effects at the state and local level as the economy could shrink and tax base growth could slow down.

Not surprisingly, the Village of Brookfield’s Comprehensive Plan talks about a goal of growing the Village population over the next 10 years, to address these demographic challenges.  For more information, please download the attached documents.  Questions about the state panel can be addressed to Nick Greifer at
