A water main break was suspected and confirmed by leak detection on Wednesday, January 3rd at the NE corner of Burlington & Prairie. Since the break location identified is within 25’ of the centerline of the nearest BNSF track, the Village has some coordination with the railroad and an outside contractor for the repair. This will take some time. In the meantime, the water department is trying to isolate the break by closing valves on both sides of the tracks, in order to keep the break from losing water and causing a hazardous condition. We have to verify that the isolation will not leave any customers without water service, but it looks like we will be able to accomplish this without impacts to service. This will buy us some time to complete the repair in a safe manner that will satisfy the requirements of the railroad.
